Perrone, a native of Palermo, Sicily, opened Progress Grocery on Decatur Street in 1924 and began a competing muffuletta
business with its near neighbor Central Grocery. The Progress store is now closed but muffulettas, olive salad, and
other southern Italian specialty items could be ordered via their Pre-Katrina online shop at http://www.progressgrocery.com/.
