Edward and Gaston Barq first bottled carbonated water and soft drinks in the French Quarter in 1890
under the name Barq's Brothers Bottling Company. Their Orangine won a gold medal at the 1893 Chicago World's Columbina Exposition. In
1898, Edward established the Biloxi Artesian Bottling
Works in Biloxi, Mississippi, which is believed to be where Barq's was fist produced. In later years, Barq's would
be bottled both at the New Orleans plant (later named "Louisiana Barq's
Company") and in Biloxi.
