 | | Howard Taft visited New Orleans before he became president. In 1909, President Taft returned to the
city. The Times-Democrat reported that, on the first occasion "...Taft didn't know very much about Creole dishes
and their peculiar capacity for putting curlicues and crimps in the digestive apparatus". He asked not to be served Creole
                                    food during his 1909 visit.
