    The Government drew its net of evidence tightly yesterday around Charles R. Heike, Secretary and Treasurer of the Sugar Trust and the chief defendant in the trial before Judge Martin and a Jury in the Criminal Branch of the United States Circuit Court, and the five men who are charged with operating the sugar-weighing frauds on the Williamsburg docks of the trust for many years prior to November, 1907.

    In 1910 the St. Vincent s Hotel and Free Labor Bureau is opened by the Rev. Peter Wynhoven to give relief and spiritual administration to homeless men. Until 1936 it provides beds, meals clothing and jobs to men willing to work. It is located in the Decatur St. end of the Lower Pontalba building.
